Wow, it looks like you are coming into the home stretch. This is where a home renovation starts to get fun. After months and months of bs you get to do the finishes. After all the hard work you deserve some pleasures. I am a Jacuzzi kind of girl, so if I had a vote that is where I would cast it. A cold winter day in a Jacuzzi would be my pleasure!
Congrats for getting this far! Thank you for the update - great news all around. Construction is never an on time process. I agree with you that if there are delays - it won't be on your part. Will be sending you positive vibes to get you across the finish line in June.
I'm very interested in the process you went through having your furniture made. We sold all our lovely midcentury furniture with our house and I'm just not finding anything comparable for a reasonable price. I did read your post on Paços da Ferreira and look forward to any updates.
It will be really lovely when it is all completed! I am eager to see how it all turns out and wish you the very best as you move through the final steps in the process!
Tile is the traditional floor in Portugal. Our first choice was cork. We had this in our home in Florida and loved the comfort….however, despite Portugal’s cork production it is twice as costly here as it was at home. We also considered polished concrete…but again comfort was a consideration. So we are going with vinyl for durability and comfort.
Thank you Nancy for sharing another great post and update on the construction of yours and Denise's beautiful home. I am hopeful that your contractor will finish on time. If for some reason the construction is delayed, though it can be a challenge for many American's, including myself "patience and flexibility" are keys attributes we all need. I do have a question about the roof top terrace, if you and Denise want a shade structure, ie; pergola, to enjoy the space during sunny and warm days (300 plus days a year), would permission be needed by the city of VRSA, or would you be free to build a shade structure that may or may not be visible from the street level?
Your home is on the way to being incredible, beautiful, and unique. I hope you get in by my birthday on June 25 and spend many years enjoying the space you created from your intelligence, savvy, and love of beauty. Light is the most important thing to me in a home, too! Best to you as things take more shape every day.
We visited a city in Northern Portugal where most furniture is manufactured and visited several stores. Read all about it at our post on Paços da Ferreira. As mentioned above, we have selected one small manufacturer to work with and will be visiting them again next month. following that visit we will provide more details. If you need information immediately, email me at ncwhiteman@gmail.com.

Home stretch nearly!
In the cherished words of my dear departed mother in law “it ain’t goin to be easy” 🤨
Well done for keeping your meticulous eyes on the ball, look forward to further updates!
New builds can take soooo long, and more time than expected. But, it's also soooo exciting! I'm very happy for you two!!
Oops…. Jacuzzi and some peppers in pots!
So happy for you two! Plans are coming together!!!

Congratulations on all of your progress! I hope you can feel pride in how far you have come as you enter what looks like a “home” stretch!
You two are so brave! The other day I thought about looking at VRSA and decided to just look for new homes. Building one is too much for me lol

We're looking forward to seeing you two next month and the progress with the renovation so far!
Hope all will be finished on time. Everything is looking great. Nice to be updated.
curious? is vinyl plank flooring popular in portugal. softer than tile...more resilient than wood?
so excited that you are seeing the light - in your den and at the end of the tunnel. all good luck to you both. it's a gem.

pretty inconceivable that cork is more expensive there!!

We intend to install canvas sun sails (movable and able to come down when not needed). Our contractor suggested this would not be a problem. 🤞

We hope to be in by then too. Give yourself a present and visit!
Great news on the progress! We would love to know where you found that lovely wooden bed frame in the picture above.
