and that's why I dislike mobile phones. We have a GPS in the camper van but I always carry maps as my late father, having been an RAF navigator, would haunt me otherwise. Even so, rural France can be challenging - esecially among the vineyards. Nao faz mal.
Fun post. You are not the only one who is struggling to learn "the P-word" (patience). And I agree! Phone trees are difficult to navigate in English, much less in rapid-fire Portuguese. Thanks for sharing your travels.
I really enjoyed this one (not your struggles) and also appreciated that I'm not alone in my struggle to grasp the European Portugués! I love how you all just roll with the punches and continue enjoy traveling. You're a real inspiration to me, you two. However, I'd kill to be a fly on the inside car window and hear those cumbersome between you and Denise. 😂😂😂😂
I had a similar experience in Provence after a day trip in Monaco. I also paid €50 to get my internet back. The funniest part is I didn’t even like Monaco.
Thanks. I sent both language links to my daughter. She and her Portuguese-speaking husband moved to Lisbon about a month ago, and she struggles with the language.
I feel your pain. While we waited patiently at the ferryport in Spain, Meo assumed we were already at sea. My husband was playing games on his phone. Then when we arrived in England he had no data. You live and learn!
Fun post Nancy. Good info. You got me at how expensive Switzerland is. We did a Christmas market trip last December. It had been 20 years since we had been in Switzerland. How the heck did Switzerland quadruple their prices while the rest of Western Europe remained reasonable?
Sometimes cell phone carrier's text messages are hard to understand such as my monthly warning: "You have exceeded the limit on your unlimited data plan."
Our MEO plan provides unlimited texts, so the first time I got a charge of .52 for sending a text I asked about it. It seems that MEO texts are limited in length. I looked at the MEO rep and said, "So you want me to use WhatsApp?" and he replied, "Yes, WhatsApp is all I use!"
I’m a bit wary of AirAlo after it took over my hard sim and wiped my US cell account. It’s a sinking feeling when you’re traveling and are suddenly cut off.

We love maps. We stock up in Germany. They’re not really much into maps down here…

Great post. This is one of my biggest fears while traveling. … that and my cell phone dying with no battery pack… now I travel with 2!
Ugh, what a frustrating experience!

Sorry you had that experience....
Taught me to always have a Plan B.
