Nancy & Denise...thank you for the invite to follow your blog. I had no idea you guys were considering moving out of the country. I read your first two blogs to Terry and we are both fascinated with your journey. Can’t wait for your next post. Did your puppy do okay on the plane? Hope you both are doing well in spite of the lockdown. Is the vaccine available in Portugal yet? Hugs to both of you...Diana & Terry.

Hi Diana, great to see you have found us. Yes, Onix did very well...I will be writing about her experience very soon. I'll also be writing about the vaccination, which is available here, once we have more information. Be well...Nanc

Glad to see a new adventure has begun. Our son was adventuring in Portugal for 3 months when the pandemic hit. He didn't panic and made it home in March 2020 as scheduled, just before the pandemic restrictions started to hit hard. As you know we love to adventure, having sailed for 4 years, then moving to Colorado's mountains, then adventuring in our van which Jay fitted out (wrote an article for your blog) and now back to New England to an 1812 house renovation. Our son loved Portugal; it's not on our list, but perhaps you'll change our mind! Glad to hear from you and that you are safe and well. Mary Lou and Jay

Hi MaryLou and Jay, we certainly remember you both and the outstanding work Jay did on the van. Are you also involved in restoring the house? Yikes. I thought we were adventurous.

Hi Nancy, Lenore gave me the heads up about your blog! How great that we can follow you on Substack, as well as Heather Cox Richardson, who I also follow! She is indeed an extraordinary analyst of the times we are living in and of their historical political context. I rely on her daily Letters from an American to be truly well informed. But, back to you and Denise...Portugal is high on our list for our next place to visit in Europe so Anna and I will follow your experiences there with great interest. Anna is German, from the south near Stuttgart. We have made several trips to Germany, Austria, France and Italy over the past ten years but we have never made it to Portugal. One day when we can freely travel again we will get there. Congratulations to the two of you for making the move! Bravo! I can surely see how living in the Villages made moving imperative. And, even now that we have the Biden/Harris administration the horrors of the Trump era are, as you know, still spreading through the poisoned minds of too much of America, and too much of their elected GOP "representatives" so that the bad news will keep coming; the battle for the "soul of America" is far from won so your move makes tremendous sense for your ongoing good mental health. Reading about what is happening in America from Portugal will have a different impact on you than reading about it, and working and voting to overcome it, from California. So, well done, I say. Enjoy the learning and the playing and the discovery. And we will enjoy following your posts!

Hi Avery, thanks for your message. We watched the assault on the Capital on 6Janury from our temporary apartment living room on CNN. Denise and I both screamed and cried! Like you we hope that with time the country will heal the deep wounds that were opened by the prior administration and the alt-right groups that were permitted to crawl out from beneath their rocks. I have republican friends. I can debate with them the purpose of government, federalism, taxation policy and the like. We may not agree...but we respect the rule of law, our election system, and cherish our freedoms. The people that stormed the Congress and promote misinformation related to the validity of the election should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. And anyone within the Congress that assisted or supported their efforts should be censured or removed.

Perhaps you can tell that I still read the Times and Post everyday. But somehow being here it does feel different. I must admit, at times I feel that we should have stayed. That the President deserves all the support he can get! But I now have hope that some day we will return. Had Trump won a second term, I am fairly certain I would have never returned.

When you are able to travel, please let us know. We got a 3/2 in Cascais so people could visit.
