Thanks for the tour! Now I don't have to go to Portugal. Just kidding.

I am really loving your posts like this one, where you share a little of the local history. So many fascinating nuggets about Portugal… Our trip in September seems so far away right now, I can’t wait to see some of these areas in person.

Great post Nancy! We added this to the list of places we need to stop at on our trip in August. If you’re planning to be in Porto in August maybe we can catch up? Fingers crossed. Julia

What a fantastic post and description of your visit to the Vista Alegre factory, so amazing, great photographs and we want to follow in your footsteps when we next head north from the Algarve. So happy you guys are soaking everything in, it's all so fabulous for you. By the way I am a BIG Vista Alegre fan and have started putting a dent in my pocket at the Visa Alegre outlet in Loule where you are visiting methinks :-)

I love reading your posts! The free walking tours are something I never thought of. Great tip for when I (hope) visit next year.

Yes, there are quite a few different companies so just Google "free walking tour" and the city name. All major European cities have them and they are a great way to get your bearings in a new city. While you likely won't go into every place on the tour, you will have a good idea those you care to circle back to.

Minor spelling correction, the town is Ilhavo not Ilhova. Since you were in Aveiro you should have gone to their coastal towns on the water, where most tourists spend their beach time. There are a bunch all starting with the name “Gafanha…”. They are old fishing towns and now beach towns that have all the amenities close by, such as restaurants, marina, stores etc. Loved it here so much we bought a condo years ago.

Thanks for the spelling correction, I fixed it but not until after the email was sent. We did go to Costa Nova...

In Porto you had rain and fog and that does not help. Maybe you will have better weather if you ever you come back. Did you visit the port wine caves?

Maria, thank you again for the tour and dinner Sunday night. As you know, the weather turned out much better than originally forecast. It was darn near balmy on Tuesday and Wednesday. We did visit Calem...we were unable to get into the one you recommended. We definitely will be back in August and September as Denise's sisters are visiting.
