with all the benefits associated to learn the local language you need also to love the benefits or the"positive" ignorance of not understanding what the tv news, magazines and people in general are saying. part joke part sad reality....here is one of many reasons why I love my dog.

So excited to be on here and read about all your experiences! I am planning to move to Portugal this time next year. My decision is directly related to Trump - He continues to be a toxic cancer on this country and I am over it. Wish I could leave sooner.

I am impressed and proud of you two for going on this wonderful adventure. It will be even more wonderful when you can finally travel around. It takes strength to get so far out of your comfort zone and you are so brave for trying something so bold. I applaud you everyday and miss you always. Can’t wait until we can come visit you and see that beautiful country. You know we like getting out of our comfort zone and seeing the world. It’s an amazing place. I’m sorry for those that don’t travel the world, they’re missing out.

I applaud you and Denise! I figured Denise was the driving force and while she ate a hot dog for love, you have ventured outside of your comfort zone cause you love and trust her. Denise's experiences in her careers has pushed her outside the box. The minute she walks up to the tee and addresses the ball sets the tone of how she is going to get through to the end of the tournament. Both my children were involved in competitive sports, skiing and figure skating, and they, as I'm sure Denise has had to as well, get rid of the negative thoughts and the bullying and get out there to WIN. I remember in college Nanc, you were strong and you too pushed through negative thoughts. Bravo on your 3 months, keep the articles coming and take lots of long walks and bike rides with Onix. Kisses and hugs

Without Denise you might have stayed in the USA? I figured you were the political activist who (rightly) wanted to get away from the Trump administration that was taking our country down as Trump's sleaziness scale was skyrocketing! Who knew?

I had the political motivation back to 2016. And even after the 2020 election i was concerned with the direction some in the country were headed. But had i been alone i suspect i would have not been so “brave”

I just always wondered why being American and having no family in Portugal, you moved to Portugal. This is exactly as you describe it.

But of course I would not adapt living in another country. Family, friends, values count too much for me

First I came from a very small family...only one brother. In part, because the US is so large, we have lived at least 1000 miles apart for over 20 years. I think that happens to a lot of families with a country the size of US. Or it could just be me...

I know that. But as you probably have already noticed here is different. Most of the people are born and live all their lives in the same city. If not the distances are so short that it easy to gather very often. And we are very much family oriented. I have had feriemos for over 70 years! I know I am old, but it is great.
