Great patience on both of your parts. I was starting to bite my nails over what you go through. Good job.

Ah, no fair! I thought you were going to give a magical new number that worked! You know.. like with the new agency came a working number...?

So that is where our renewed residency cards are - PORTO!!! Mike renewed his in June, and I renewed in July. They have never arrived at our new address in Lisbon. I'm at the point where I don't care about the card, and I'm not going to make a trip to Porto. They took my money. I took a screen shot of the completed application process. The ball is in their court. Oh, and I'm still waiting on my drivers license. This is crazy.

Thanks again, Nancy for all the helpful info.

So your new 3 year cards have your old address? And you did get your address changed on line? And you are not going to call the infamous numbers to try to get an in person appointment to change the address on your cards? At least within the system somewhere they know you changed your address. I guess this is what we have to look forward to in a year. Even if we get the address changed online we might still have our cards delivered to the old original office from the first appointment. Lisbon road trip 🤣

We are pretty much in the same time table as y’all. Thank God we don’t have to deal with this until 2026 (knocking on wood we don’t lose our cards).

I applied for my temporary residency renewal back in 12/12/23. Paid for online through Multibanco as requested. Still nothing. Concerned it was mailed to the old address. 🤣

Probably so. If you can visit the office in that city you might be able to pick it up!

I emailed them to find out. I am not close to that city anymore so it would be a trip. Want to find out first where it is.

I always appreciate your clear-eyed analyses. The NHR announcement came the same week I was diagnosed with breast cancer (caught early, prognosis good, but long treatment) and both are impacting our timeline. Needless to say, I’m devouring all info about how this will lay out. I hope you’ll keep sharing relevant news as you see fit. Thank you for these posts!

Love reading your posts. We are in the application process, D7, we have our NIF, Portugal bank account and own property. Since we are also in the getting rid of stuff and house process, and have a want to be in Portugal next September, I am trying to figure out time lines. Also, documents needed and D7 time lines. For example do the notarized documents have a 6 month shelf life??? Then we throw in all these agencies changes and my brain explodes….. thanks again, suffering in PA.

Dear Suffering in PA

Calma!

If you need assistance there are people & companies that can help. But remember thousands of people do this every year on their own. You can do it!

Perseverance, as always. Just wanted to caution: if you are referencing the webinar hosted by Fresh Portugal, several attorneys reported it to SEF and AT. Both the firm and the persons they have filled 'manifestations of interest' for are targeted for review. Not good.

Thanks for the heads-up...but no it was not that webinar.

If you feel there's a reputable firm dealing with this topic, I'd appreciate being able to refer our nervous AFIP members there.

One trick we learned that turned out not to be much help: If you call the SEF numbers from a land line, instead of a mobile phone, you can listen to a cheery 5 minute recording, alternating between Portuguese and English. It doesn't offer much help and it disconnects the call after 5 minutes.

You have a landline? Aren’t you a WordPress guru? I am very confused.

Yes, I do and maybe I am. Our TV/cell phone / internet package included a land line number. There's a phone jack on the back of the router. When I heard the thing about calling SEF on a land line, I went to one of the local discount stores and bought a €12 phone. Other than the few times I've tried calling SEF, the phone sits, unplugged, in a drawer.
