"I can’t pinpoint the exact month it happened…but I think it took about one year. My mindset started to change. First, I realised the value in experiencing a country without making comparisons."

I especially like this line, not only to have an idea when I might expect getting to this stage myself, but mostly because it's a very important thing to notice and fully appreciate, a fabulous goal to reach.

This is great, Nancy, thank you for your thoughts.

Was just writing up our own post about acclimating to life in Denmark. In a few years, we hope to be acclimating somewhere...warmer.

FWIW we are not anywhere warmer and the political situation bites.

Being here 2 years as well your post tracks with my experience closely. My head is still spinning. I think 1 more year and I’ll feel even more settled. Thanks for your posts. I read everyone!

Good to know that even two years in we might still be a little off kilter. Thanks!

Love the mission statement, two old white women move to PT. Thanks y'all, from an American still in America. Cheers!

I have been following you from the beginning and always look forward to your posts. While I’m not ready to live other than the USA (I re-think this frequently!), I plan on being a participatory and thoughtful/learning traveler and temporary resident now and when I retire.

Your post is comforting to me as my husband and I hope to be in Portugal in fall 2023. Your clear-eyed perspective is refreshing.
