Nancy, my wife and I are both well traveled and we concur with the surveys and with your newfound (albeit a year) love of Portugal. I usually post a photo of beautiful things big and small in Portugal, daily on Instagram. Sometimes, however, I wonder if our efforts will contribute to a snowballing of Americans wanting to live here and spoiling the place. Anyway, thanks for writing, I love your observations and thoughts.

To date I have found that the Americans that think about living here are “our kind of people”…the only America is great, the rest of the world is a scary place crowd often don’t even have passports…thank goodness.

Sounds like the flip side of the coin. “Our kind of people”? Sounds a little smug. I am glad you have found a place where you feel welcomed and at home so that you want to stay there “forever.” Let’s face it, a utopia is a place where everyone is like me and thinks like me - where there is no conflict. Very interesting to consider. It’s like looking in a mirror for all the answers to your questions.
