This may be a stupid question. Does online banking not support online bill payment? Rather than pay the utility bill at the ATM, could you not pay via online bill payments?

The banking apps also support paying bills, taxes, etc. But I have stood in line behind people that have a stack of bills that they pay (one at a time...get receipt) at the Multibanco machine. My mother wanted to hand a check to a cashier (rather than deposit via the machine or app) until the day she dies. When I watch these folks I think of her.

I am still in the States so I had to open my Portuguese bank account from here and Millennium bank was my only option. There fees are high so I would like to switch banks at some point once I am in Portugal. Is Multibanco the name of a bank or just a system? If it's a bank, are there branches in many locations to make it easily accessible? I will be living in Porto. Thanks

Submitting cash here works the same way as I required cash from several of our renters after a single insufficient funds encounter. Bank of America in Redondo Beach ATM took over $4K monthly- same methodology.

We certainly are lagging in this aspect....paying all Bills with the same app!

Well, I'm thinking of the lines at the ATM machine as it is. I cannot imagine waiting behind someone doing multiple transactions. If you have an ATM card, seems you can also bank on line. But what do I know? BTW, I love depositing my checks in the ATM. And you can watch as it scans.

I use the app for many transactions. And of course, many of the utilities offer a discount if you permit them to credit your account directly.

There is a bank app, which I have installed on my phone. Works great!

In Canada almost all of the ATM’s accept straight cash (no deposit envelope) and also cheques. The receipt will give you a copy of the cheque(s) you have deposited for your records. This is great for the few times you get paid by cheque. For our Pickleball Ball Club it works great

Thanks Brian for that information. Even in the States, I seldom used cash...so I was surprised to see the Multibanco be able to read and calculate the bills. Makes sense though since self-service checkout machines can do it. Perhaps I just did not have occasion to use that function in the US.
