Leaving the US?
Is now the right time...
I wrote about my feelings following the 2024 election in the US. While I spent much of the day crying after the 2016 election … this one cut deeper.1
According to Entre NOUS (a French news organization), on 6 November 2024, online searches seeking information on moving to Europe increased by 2400 %.2 So I need to do more than write about our happy life in Portugal … I need to offer just a bit of guidance to those considering leaving the US.
While thousands may search the internet about moving out of the US…very few do. So, we begin with a piece called “What is Your Why or Why Not”.
Next, we address “Visa Free Travel”, i.e., ways to travel without a visa.
In the third installment, available 25 November, we’ll review the types of visas and how to research which countries offer what.
Finally, in the fourth installment to be published on 2 December, we will focus on information and resources for people looking to relocate to Portugal.
Please Note: I am not a relocation company! ExpatInPortugal is a part-time hobby of mine … not a business. I retired at 59, and I am now 70. I am fortunate to have a “day job” which includes travel, walking on the beach, playing golf, painting, and dining with friends. My goal is to provide basic information and then guide you to resources that provide the information you need.
A majority of the people who voted in the US chose a person convicted of 34 felonies (whose company was also found guilty of criminal tax fraud and falsifying business records) and who was found liable for sexual assault and defamation of character.
As the President-Elect selects Matt Gaetz (who has been investigated for illegal drug use and trafficking underage women) to the position of Attorney General and Robert F Kennedy, JR (who hosted a brain worm, bragged about putting a dead bear in Central Park, and promotes unfounded claims related to vaccinations ) as head of HHS one can only imagine that online searches will continue.
