This is a good blog. If the bombeiros are in need of men I will get involved. Once I get to an intermediate level of Portuguese that is. Thanks for the inspiration.

What goes around comes around. So often, when we make a bold move to escape a perceived crisis, we are met with an authentic crisis - far worse than the one perceived. To engage in living is to experience crises - real and imagined. My ex-husband expressed it in terms of used cars - "You trade a leak for a squeak."

Nicely done! Unfortunately, there is no escaping these wild fires unless you move to the arctic circle. It is a matter of time!

Nancy Jorge’s English digest was incredible. Thanks for suggesting this to your viewers.

Did you see the new decree on exchanging Drivers Licenes?

Hopefully this is great news knowing how backed up IMT is exchanging drivers licenses to Portuguese licenses.

This decree just was announced this week:

DECREE LAW No. 46/2022

Publication: Republic Diary No. 46/2022, Series 1 of 2022-07-12

Issuer: Presidency of the Council of Ministers

Diploma Type: Decree Law

Number: 46/2022

Pages: 3 - 5

SUMMARY IN PLAIN ENGLISH

What is it?

This decree-law amends the Portuguese Road Traffic Code by allowing motor vehicles to be driven by holders of driving licences issued by Member States of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

What is going to change?

Motor vehicles may be driven on national territory by holders of driving licences issued by CPLP and OECD Member States.

To this end:

The State issuing the permit must be a signatory to certain conventions or to a bilateral agreement with the Portuguese State;

No more than 15 years may have elapsed since the issue or last renewal of the permit; and

The holder must be under 60 years of age;

This exempts the exchange of driving licences on an equal footing with holders of driving licences issued by EU Member States.

What advantages does it bring?

By simplifying the ability to drive motor vehicles, the integration of migrants is promoted while improving their quality of life.

Mobility between citizens of CPLP Member States and OECD Member States is strengthened and improved.

When does it enter into force?

This decree-law will enter into force on the first working day of the month following its publication.

This new decree is for people under 60. Does this mean if you are over 60, you have to exchange your license for a Portuguese license.

Any help or knowledge on this recent decree would be helpful especially those US citizens who have motorcycle endorsements on their existing licenses.
