You paint a great picture of life in a small town. Sam Malone serves you your morning coffee while Carla takes your order for pastry. A large man walks through the cafe door. 'NORM!' the other caferistas call out. VRSA is definitely a place I plan to visit. Summers sound a bit too toasty for me so I'll likely be one of those Porto 'rain birds', heading south during the winter months while mold overtakes my abandoned apartment. Ferrying to the next country over for a light dinner and too much sangria sounds perfect. Tchau!
I’m glad you got to meet with the Travelling Queen. It looks like she had settled well into VRSA. It has that fairy land appeal in You Tube. You now have experienced it first hand. Hopefully, your choice to call this home may happen. Where is the closest hospital Nancy? I don’t think there is one (medical offices yes)…..Tavira? Or do you have to go to Faro? Have another great day!
I love VRSA, and I spent for over 10 years my summer holidays at Altura, about 15 minutes from VRSA. Food is amazing there, great fish restaurants.
Linen shops are so popular because spanish love portuguese linen and they cross the river just to buy them :) They cross to buy linen and we (portuguese) cross to get fuel (less expensive) and of course the famous tapas :)
Still trying to research why there are so many kitchen and linen shops there. BTW we bought some beautiful Costa Nova pottery vases at our favorite shop (Cais 16) yesterday. Look at us, actually splurging.
Great post - it’s fun watching your adventures and explorations (so sorry about your misadventure and surgery, through appreciate your sharing your experience with the hospital a lot!) By the time I’m ready to take a leap again, it seems you’ll have filled me in on the best places to go and to settle! So thank you!! :)
PS Thanks for the walk down memory lane - I house/pet sat for several weeks in Fort William in the Scottish highlands, and totally concur with you - would love to live there if not for the weather!
Thank you for the compliment. Denise and I are headed back down for a few days in the middle of the month. Please email me (ncwhiteman@gmail.com) if you want to get together for a coffee.
Sounds like a great place to settle down! We're thinking of going to Spain first on our way to Italy so perhaps we'll be able to connect late August or September of next year!
