Thanks again for a great post. For those of us who have felt somewhat stuck in the US, it’s a real treat. I also wanted to say, you did a great survey (not all I’ve filled out are as well-done ;) And as much as I might miss your daily posts, I’m glad to hear you are easing up on your schedule a bit.

you are brave driving those narrow streets with a manual...it's like riding a bike, once you know how you never forget! You cannot turn right on a red light unless indicated and you should also be aware that many local drivers run red lights(I googled this). Insurance coverage...some credit cards cover the insurance on renting a car check that policy as you may not have to purchase insurance from the rental company, you already have it. And, some cover towing charges.

The Portuguese highways are fabulous. And for the most part, I park and walk. Our neighbors, a French wife & German husband, educated me on the turning on red thing...you are correct it is a no-no.

We LOVED Estremoz, it haunted us and were so taken aback by the narrow streets, and then struck by seeing two very hip kids hanging out as we got out of the car (which seemed surreal). I discovered the Pousada de Rainha Santa Isabel built in 19thC and took a peek inside and Eric owes me a night there after all is said and done with us settling in here!!

If you are up for a quick visit, perhaps breakfast or brunch, we are headed to the Algarve again in July. WhatsApp or call me if you have sorted your phone/wifi situation to discuss.
