It’s important to speak out! It’s important to learn to do more in terms of supporting the resistance to the tyranny of the Faux-Christian white racist project to repeal society back to the dark ages.

Find a group with some power and FUND them.

Your comment was well spoken.

I love reading everything you write!Thank you for this detailed information about car inspections. We bought a new car 2 years ago and were just wondering when our inspection would be due.

I also love everything you write about the politics in the U.S. Although we didn’t leave because of the political climate, we are happy we are no longer there. I was at a Dr. appointment last week getting an ultrasound mammography. The Dr was an older Portuguese man who spoke very good English. He said I was his first American patient. After finding out I was American, he proceeded to tell me what he thought about Americans while he was running his wand around my boobs. (It was kind of funny) He was saying how most Americans are uneducated and stupid, and don’t care about anything that’s happened in the past, and because of that voted for that imbecile, and now the world is going to be disrupted because of “our” stupidity. I agreed with him and also talked about my thoughts, which are the same as your thoughts so eloquently written here.

At the end, he said “É muito simpática. Foi um prazer conhecê-la.”

What I’m hoping is we Americans who aren’t idiots, and who didn’t vote for that horrible cheeto of an ass, can help people see that not all Americans are stupid. Some are actually nice, smart, and can bring goodness to their country.

We live in Porto. One of these days when we go to VRSA, we would LOVE to meet you both.

So glad you spoke out against the White Nationalist Christian takeover of the US. I am super angry that an unelected immigrant from South Africa, a man who is the richest person in the world, feels that he can take over our government and use his incels to gain access to our private information. The dems are finally fighting back, and so are the American people. This cannot continue. The orange one and his minions were not elected by a mandate, although they like to say this. Personally, I think voter suppression, which the Republicans have down to a science, is the reason that the orange turd is back in the White House.

Sadly, voter *apathy* is how he got reelected. Too many people sat this one out because they didn't like Kamala, for reasons that still boggle my mind.

Ok...thank you for the car inspection info...super helpful. Obrigada.

And the rest of the article? Holy s#*t! You said it so perfectly. MUITO obrigada.

Wow Nancy, your political writing is clear, concise, and powerful. Your list really distills powerful points of fact. I imagine that those who voted for the Tangerine Traitor would just say it's all fake news. They are completely brainwashed to benefit the rich. He makes it so easy for them not to worry about having to think. Thanks for the list, you could add to it, I'm sure.

I’ve been reading your missives for nearly a year and this is the first time I’m leaving a comment, which is: Brava!! You absolutely made my day with the last part of your post. While my husband and I are so very happy and relieved to be living in Portugal, watching what is happening in the U.S. is horrifying.

It’s even worse being here.

Thank you both explaining the trivial (car inspection) and the horrifying (the madness of America right now). We all must stay strong, practice self care and oppose the attempt to dismantle democracy however we best can.

Frightening times here in the US. And the Netherlands, France, and Hungary are on the trump train.

Thanks, Nancy for your clear words. It is indeed a shit show. As a gay, Treasury Department employee I can tell you first hand it is a new horror every day. I have just under a year to reach my 20 and hope I make it. If the writing appears on the wall, I’ll leave earlier. My intention is to move to Portugal and I’m hoping they don’t slam the door on us before that can happen. We aren’t all idiots in this country, but I’m sure it doesn’t look like it to the outside world. I’ll be in Portugal in April/May walking the Camino, so that will be my first experience. I’m hoping the “vibes” work for me. Porto is the area I am interested in moving to, so I’m looking forward to experiencing the area of northern Portugal on foot. Depending on when I leave my job, I will go back next spring for a scouting trip, open accounts, get the NIF and hopefully find information on a lease so I can start the VFS process. Thank you for your writing. I do enjoy it. And your experience gives me hope.

You are right on in your assessment of what’s happening in the US right now. It is difficult to see our representatives slow and often weak responses to the blatant lawlessness of this “regime”. We are doing all that we can to resist and speak out but the steamrolling continues. I fear that our 250 year old experiment may not survive this coup.

I agree. I am scared for my family and friends back home. I feel my party has failed me. I feel guilt watching this happen while I am in an amazing place.

Thank you Nancy, I feel your pain. I too feel that my life in Portugal is glorious, with all the attendant guilt. Keep going on all fronts - folks need distraction :)

It’s wonderful that you speak from the head & heart about Donald Trump. How long will it take to remove him - is Impeachment possible?

The only way he'll leave the White House anytime in the next four years, is feet-first. If that happens, don't expect anything to improve with a President Vance.
