I do that all the time. Plan a trip in advance and on a map everything looks close but when you get there the distances aren't practical. I swear I'm never going to do it again but for some reason I always seem to repeat this mistake.
Fantastic post! The pictures are great. It's the first travelogue that can actually make me get off of my island and travel a little. :-) Thanks for posting.
It's on the list now for a visit. As a side note, one of my uncles was among those rescued from Dunkirk and returned to France on the 3rd day of the D-Day landings. (He was fined for losing his rifle at Dunkirk but it was a nominal sum deducted from his pay, Very British.)

Yes! Me too - why can't the distances just be accurate? :)
Avignon is definitely worth a visit if you return to the south of France again.
There is a wonderful Netflix series about a French village in the resistance. Each season is a year in the war.

Paying for his rifle...remarkable
As ever the British are weird (but not in a DJT way)
Transcontinental on Netflix was great, on American and French resistance.
Thanks!
Very enjoyable account Nancy. You maybe interested to watch 'Secret Army' a 70's series that portrays so much of the essence of that time.
Thanks!
