Another lovely adventure...may they continue! Returning from the winelands with bottles of wine is just no fun at all! Don't know about France but I've seen snakes in vine rows and was told to only go walking with the owner's Jack Russell although I'm sure Onyx has got that all under control.
I did a cooking and wine course in Bordeaux many moons ago and went to a cooking course to learn how to cook "all parts of ze duck" two french women in white coats came out and slapped two long necked poor deceased ducks on a wooden table and proceeded to surgically cut them open. Many of the American participants started fainting! Unforgettable, etched in my memory, hah!
I love reading blogs about travel and learning something new almost every time. I also like that she took a risk to start a second half of life, and found a new passion. Thank you for sharing Nancy!
I so needed this post and this inspiration. I'm in a 'stuck' phase where i do travel (like a lunatic sometimes) and spend at least 5-6 weeks on my own. Last 2 years Portugal; this time Sanremo, Narbonne and Montpellier. Don't exactly know what I am waiting for but did the "exercise" in "Exit Stage Left" (identify the 20 things I like and the 20 things I don't like). So feel slightly more motivated. Again, thank you for the nuanced kick in the seat to take the next steps.
What a wonderful story, dear Nancy! I should read Sally Evans book. To keep my dreams up. ……. I spent 4 weeks in Estoril in August September this year and decided not to relocate in Portugal. I was very lonely by myself and lacking any enthusiasm to explore after few hours of volunteering at cat shelter every morning . Simply tired . I need her book to inspire me.
Many, most of our limitations, they live inside of our head. Once we clear that hurdle, so much is possible. So much... I like your "one foot in front of the other" quote. It makes me think of an old, favorite Christmas cartoon that features a misfit cast of characters. My youth is gone, but that story, it still touches my heart. Thank you Nancy. As always, you inspire...
So glad you liked that area - I always enjoy the drive through the vineyards. I have worked on the principle that stopping old work starts so many new adventures and I'm grateful or being able to carry some out before I get too decrepid. Learning to work in a restaurant kitchen has been fun and very different from computers and small travels are so exciting.
I love reading all your travel adventures, but this one is so inspiring 💖 It could be made into a movie. Enjoy your travels and continue sharing your lovely adventures 😊
Thanks, as always, for a wonderful, inspiring post. You reminded me, though, that, because of a variety of circumstances - changes in our family's lives and geography, retirement, COVID, friends who welcomed us here like family from the start, and an easy, fast visa experience - our big move did not feel that risky or scary. We are grateful for that! Até à Próxima! When are you coming back to the island?

We have so many places to visit. But I am sure we will return.
