I admire how cleanly and kindly you dissect the stories you are told. Have always heard this same tale of the Moorish chimney caps. I hope you find your artisan and design your own!

Hi - thanks for covering the delightful topic of Algarvian chimneys - I’ll always love these designs - anyhow I’m considering making these myself but struggling to find a manufacturer in Portugal who I can share mold construction techniques with - did you ever find a manufacturer (old style small workshop or larger mass producer) ? I live in the UK and ready to get going making these for myself. Many thanks again. James.

Hi - thank you for your work covering these beautiful chimneys - I would love to know if your or your readers could pass on the names of any Portuguese chimney manufacturers small or large as I'd love to make chimney designs myself for my own garden and so sharing the techniques used would be my objective to get me started. Thanks if anyone can help and understandable if not as sadly small makers will be few but a large manufacturer nam still would be really helpful if anyone knows it. Best x

Thanks for the memory jog! I was first in the Algarve in the mid-80's and fell in love with the chimneys back then. And thanks for the links, just read 'em all! If you don't yet know Porches pottery, check them out, they're worth a story as well, and they have a lovely Algarvian fireplace and chimney to see. We commissioned them to do our kitchen backsplash in their style, which is a unique blend of hand-painted tiles. https://www.porchespottery.com/en/
