Always travel during the week, avoid Sevilla in July and August, book a Flamenco dinner and show....and never ever go to Costco but do follow the substack recommendations. Your list is my list, too!
I love Costco and go from Lisbon there 3 to 5 times a year! I say it’s for Costco but it’s really to spend time in Beautiful Seville! My quote un quote Costco trip usually takes 3 or 4 days:) There is a good Mexican restaurant near the cathedral if you have a craving! Lol
Thank you for the quick rundown on Seville! It's on my list for my next trip to Spain...actually, it will be the trip after the one where I volunteer at Jacob's Ridge. :) Also, Costco is supposedly coming to Stockholm, so maybe it is slowly taking over Europe 😲...
Hi Nancy, I enjoy your posts! A friend and I will be visiting Portugal later this month and was wondering if you might be interested in grabbing a cup of coffee/tea with us? I have thought about retiring in Portugal, and would love to chat.
Nancy, Thank you so much. It would be fantastic to meet the person behind the blog. My friend Cathy and I will be arriving on Wednesday, April 13th. The plan is to drive down the coast and across the Algarve. Will email when we get to the Algarve. Again, thank you!
Did someone say pickleball?? We arrive on April 15 to may 17. Last days are in VRSA. First week Lagos We’d love to play lots so if Denise has suggestions…we are all ears. Looking forward to meeting you
We love Seville. An old friend lives there and took us to a few special places.
Be sure to explore the Jewish Quarter. There’s a hotel called La Casa de la Juderia that is actually several old houses with inside gardens. You can ask at the desk if you can visit. It’s worth exploring.
Restaurant La Moneda is a rooftop restaurant with amazing views and excellent food. It’s been around for a long time and lots of locals go there.
Looks like you’ve picked a great location. Cadiz is supposed to be a lovely city, too.
So many questions and thoughts. :) How dog friendly would you say Seville would be? Does a dog sitter stay the night in your place? Thankfully you didn’t get the famous Costco hotdog and soda, could have been a great (or not so great) story for the substack. hehehe. Happy to see the new app, now I can get notifications when you post!
Thanks for showing me around Seville. It looks beautiful and the The Hotel Alfonso XIII lobby is just stunning. I love and miss Costco. I used to get excited when I was in their parking lot but then again I go to McDonalds at least once a year.
I love reading your posts! I always find them informative, and this one is no exception. We finally arrived in Portugal (Tavira) two weeks ago today. We knew there was a Costco in Seville, and we do plan to go there, but you brought up such a good point about storage space, and our apartment is no different. We wanted to stop in Seville on our drive here (we moved here from Germany) but there was some sort of truckers protest going on in the area where we wanted to get to, so we decided to come back another time.
Yes we passed a trucker’s protest, fortunately goingthe opposite direction. When we are trying to conserve fuel nd gas one wonders if there is another way.
Back in the 90s we stayed in Albufeira for a week, and made a last minute decision to drive to Seville. Upon arriving, we saw scads of women in the streets wearing flamenco dresses. I remarked "Wow, they really do dress like that here!" OK, tongue in cheek. Unknowingly, we had stumbled upon Féria de Abril! Now, that was very cool. I'm not sure how we found the actual event area, but I guess we just followed the dresses. Caballeros on horseback loitering, each tent had their own private flamenco stage, each with people eating and drinking and carousing inside.

Thanks for your travelogue. Sevilla is now on our list of places to visit in Spain.
❤️Seville! We did the Catedral Roof Top Tour and it was amazing!

Sounds like a wonderful way to explore
We loved our private electric bike tour of Seville. Bar Alfalfa is a great spot to eat. This is an awesome AirBnB: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/742801/photos?source_impression_id=p3_1649110648_pce34xqrK5mQApg6
It's a magical little city! Thanks for the detailed descriptions of your experiences!
On a busy Saturday those bike tours looked scary…but I love your Aerbnb suggestion. Will definitely check it out for our return trip.

Sounds delightful. When I come to visit, let's go to Seville. When will your house be ready?
It was lovely, but much too short. We can absolutely spend some time then when you come to visit. Regarding the house....stay tuned!

Spain is fairly dog friendly. Our dog sitter stayed in our home day and night. Wonderful!
