Funny you mention the Internet service throughout Europe. There are so may areas in the US that do not even have cell phone coverage, let alone internet. So many rural communities have no services of any kind - my home state - South Carolina. The Federal Communications Commission estimates 650,000 South Carolinians don’t have access to broadband internet, including more than 552,000 people who live in rural areas, and more than 97,000 people who live in urban areas. One estimate to connect the the remaining 192,000 households in the state without broadband puts the cost at $800 million. I suspect that SC is not alone. I'm sure we are right down there with Mississippi, Alabama and West Virginia. I suspect Guam has better service - but I may be wrong.

I just stumbled upon your blog and am looking forward to reading every entry - my husband and I had planned to explore Portugal as a possible place to retire in and COVID cancelled (well, seriously postponed) our info gathering trip. Thank you so much for putting this information out there for the benefit of others!

I hope you can get a nice flat. How strange this story of a breaking pipe.

But at least you were not there...

Yes internet is much cheaper in Portugal than in America.
