I will be arriving in Portugal later this month and the VRSA area is one that I would like to explore.
I realize this may be an unusual query - are you familiar with Villa Marquez on R. Jose Barao 61? Any insights or comments would be greatly appreciated.
No I am not not. There are not a lot of hotel options in VRSA. Most a more budget oriented like the one you listed (I had to look it up). There are two higher quality hotels: the Pestana and Grand House. The later being very expensive. The location of the one you listed is good and if you are just looking for a place to sleep it likely will be okay.
I’m really enjoying all your posts and look forward to them. I’m planning my first trip to Portugal in September ‘23 for a month stay. I was thinking of staying in Praia da Rocha as kind of a home base but I’ve been given so many differing opinions of where to go and everything looks so beautiful. Originally, I was thinking of relocating there mostly because of similar reasons that you had with the crazy atmosphere in the US. With everything I’ve read and because living on the California central coast, I’m pretty spoiled by the weather and easy access to everything, so I plan on exploring once I’m there. I will have a friend with me the first 10 days and for a couple weeks my sister and her husband might join me and I’ve been sharing your posts with them too. Thanks again for your suggestions and your posts…I’m really looking forward to it.
Praia da Rocha is a lovely spot but not sure I would choose it as your base. To get in and out you need to drive inland to Sintra before access any major thoroughfares or public transportation. Not sure if you are planning on a car….fell free to email me if you want to discuss exactly what you are looking for.
So fun to read your posts Nancy- I'm very much looking forward to coming back in March and will try a few new places to visit thanks to your recommendations! And pickleball of course!
Always look forward to your posts! All your suggestions are on our itinerary. We take off in about a month. Can’t believe it’s already upon us! Still tweaking. Thanks again for all the valuable information.

Our builder estimated one year…which means May or June of next year.
