Do they still make those door posters? You know the ones: the doors of Philadelphia, the doors of San Francisco, the doors of Reading. I recall they were once a thing. Even if they aren’t still a thing, I think about creating an art installation of door photos in our house someday.

I have also been fascinated by, and have been photographing, doors for decades. They frame themselves and express so much about the place behind them. It is so simple to make a beautiful photograph when the door is beautiful. Doors are symbolically so meaningful and can be visually stunning. A statement. A possibility. A vision of what might be beyond. And, as Kathy says, an invitation.
Doors are truly fascinating. ..an invitation to the world behind them.
