Just a few kilometers from Aveiro you come to a beautiful beach town. Originally these sheds, called haystacks, were built by the fishermen to store their equipment.
The first haystacks were built in the 19th century. The outside planks were horizontal and painted in bright red easily visible from the sea. The interior space was open and wide … used only for storage. As the years went by, some fishermen began to transform them into living spaces where several families would live during the summer. The one below is a holiday rental.
Next Week: Portuguese medicine….up close and personal.
Boy am I bad. A day late (maybe more like a couple of weeks late) and a dollar short. Can hardly wait for progress reports.
Very cool!!
