Many of us grew up thinking the Christmas traditions our families shared were the “right ones”. I, for example, grew up thinking the tree had to be decorated on Christmas eve, presents were opened on Christmas morning, and dinner was typically a glazed ham.
Christmas in Portugal
However, in Portugal, Christmas Eve is “the” big event. Families gather and exchange gifts, and everyone enjoys the Christmas meal, called Consoada, salted cod, served with green vegetables, boiled potatoes, and boiled eggs. If you are wealthier you may also serve the second course of shellfish and exotic meats.
We won’t be making that tonight. Instead, we have gathered our favorite photos of the holiday festivities over the last few weeks. We share them with you now…hoping they bring a smile to your face and peace to your heart. Hoping you once again experience the wonder of holidays past.
